What is an EIR and
a DEIR?
In order to do any of the projects
under consideration, the city must conduct an
in depth analysis of each one, called an EIR.
This is required by the California Environmental
Quality Act (CEQA). Areas studied include
impacts on: traffic, biological resources, neighborhood
character, aesthetics, noise, recreation, cultural
resources, and more. The DEIR is the first version,
and is released for public comment. The city must
then respond to every comment, and include those
responses in the final EIR. Anyone may submit
a comment: individuals, organizations and relevant
agencies.
